The piece above was created to represent an unusual space. In this case the unusual space is the mouth of the seal. It can also be seen as the perspective a fish would have if it were to be eaten by the seal. The unusually sharp teeth, dark eyes, and very dark background portray the fear that the fish would be feeling when seeing this. Some of the regrets of this project are how blotchy it is in some places like the neck, also i would like to get the whiskers actually on the nose of the seal by planning them better from the start.
This piece was focused on the technique of foreshortening. This was something I've never done before which made it very challenging. The theme of the project is fear. I was struggling to find something that I was afraid of that could be easily represented in art. This lead me to this idea of the fear of a blank canvas, or not having anything to draw. If I were to redo this project, I would put more emphasis on the difference in depth between the hand and the body. I might also consider a different medium. Either acrylic or oil paint.
